Asking celebrities for an RT in order to sell your house. Do or Don’t?

Today I saw someone on Twitter asking for an RT. He was asking a celebrity to RT a link to his house in order to sell.
And it got me thinking. Is this the way to sell your house? I know the housing market is still under a lot of stress. Especially now that the dutch government, instead of helping (first time) buyers, is discouraging them with laws that make it harder to get a mortgage.

House sold

But asking a celebrity for an RT in order to sell your house? I really don’t get that.
I can understand Becky Beau asking this to make people more aware of the possibility of young people having strokes. I can understand myself doing it when I wrote a blog post about Escape To The Country. But to do it because you want to sell your house?
A celebrity is being followed by thousands of people. Asking them for an RT is a great way to get exposure. But do you really want to do that with your house?

The person I saw asking it did this under his own name. His own Twitter profile. In which he describes himself as an Apple fanboy. Great! Now we know he’s got some pretty nice gadgets that can be sold on quicker than you can say Steve Jobs. He’s also talking about going on a ski trip in 3 weeks time. Nice! Now we know exactly when he’s away.
We can look up his house on the estate agents site, look at the photo’s  and see he’s got an antique clock. Not too big, so it can be taken easily. We can see that his house can be approached from the back without anyone seeing you. And while the car is not on the pictures I see car keys with a pretty high end german brand. Which means he has an expensive car. Going to Google Earth and looking at the address I can clearly see that high end German car in front of the house. It’s a relatively new model, but the keys are on a table close to the front door. So if I want to I’ll bust in the front door, grab the keys and I can be off before the guy even realises what happened.

So, in a nutshell, if you want to sell your house via Twitter, think about the consequences it might have. Think about making a new account for the house itself. I know you probably have more followers than a new account has, but trying to get an RT under your own name, for your own property might not be such a good idea…

Why babies are creepy

This week, once again, has made it awfully clear that I really don’t like kids. My sister-in-law called with the news that she’s pregnant. I already knew this, as it was showing in her whole body a couple of weeks ago. But now she wanted to share the big news with her brother and sis-in-law. Too bad I’m not really happy about it. I am happy for her, just not for me.

I’ve said this before, I don’t like kids. They’re very annoying and scare the crap out of me. I’ll show you why.

This is how I see babies. They’ve got huge heads, big bulging eyes and I have no idea if they come in peace or not. Most likely not, according to my ears. They scream, cry, yell, whine, whimper and howl. They stink, smell and reek.

You are familiar with Pavlov, right? If not, open the link and then come back. I’ll wait for you.
From day one we condition babies by giving them attention as soon as they start crying. The kid will learn that crying is a good thing. Crying gets rewarded with attention, a bottle or a clean diaper. Then, when the kid is about two years old, two years worth of conditioning, we say to them “oh, by the way, crying (which gave you all the attention before) is a bad thing. We don’t want crying, from now on we want you to talk.” Confusing much?

In my opinion, kids shouldn’t be seen or heard until they are at least ten years old. By that time they’ve probably learned that they shouldn’t talk unless someone talks to them. If they haven’t, this should be a good way of keeping them quiet.

Twitter Giveaways

Lately I’ve seen lots of companies doing giveaways on Twitter. Only to get more followers. That, in itself isn’t a big problem, but I really dislike how they do it.

I’ve been following some companies for a long time. Many of them even before they really started exploiting Twitter. I feel like a loyal follower. But since many companies only look at the numbers there’s now a trend to give new followers something if they are follower number X

For instance this tweet. I don’t follow them, but merely used it to make my point. Why is follower 600 getting a price? Because you have another 599 (loyal) followers. What about follower 10? Or follower 100? They don’t get anything. Why? Because they were loyal. Because they didn’t wait until there was a giveaway just to win follower 600.

This, to me, sounds really unfair. I’ve had it before with a local shop. I simply unfollowed them and tried to be that X follower, just to have a chance of winning that giveaway. And I’ve unfollowed quite a few companies because of a giveaway like this. If you want to do a giveaway on Twitter because you’ve reached X amounts of followers, please to it like this:

This is fair to all followers. Please companies, make your giveaways fair to all of your followers. Because many of them are seriously put off by giveaways that only are for new followers. Loyal followers should get a chance too!

Ubersocial :(

This is an email i sent to Ubersocial this morning, due to some massive problems i’m having since the latest updates. I don’t think they’ll fix it any time soo, since i’m not having a lot of faith in them anymore. I always thought the people behind it were businessmen, but i’m beginning to think they are 2 14-year olds in their moms basement…

Dear sir, madam,

I’m having huge problems with Ubersoc. Over the last 48 hours it has been updating 3 times, each update was more broken then the last. Since yesterday i van’t even tweet or read tweets due to massive problems.

First of; it resets my settings every time i open the app or after x amount of minutes. Usually about 10 minutes.
Second; i can’t read the last tweet in my timeline because of a pop=up box type of thing in the upper left corner of my screen.
Third; It asks me if i want to follow @Twidroyd every time i open the app or try to change the settings.
fourth; It wants me to take a tour every time i open it or try to change the settings.
Fifth; Im unable to change the theme to any other theme. It does nothing anymore. I need a dark theme due to an eyedisease. The standard colours are way too bright for my eyes.
Sixth; Due to resetting my settings every time it drains my battery like there’s no tomorrow, since it resets itself to update every 5 minutes…

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that doesn’t help. I’ve now resorted to delete the settings and turning the app off, so it won’t do anything. This however, made me unable to even use Twitter. And why did i get this app? Yes, to use Twitter on a regular basis!
I’ve tweeted about this last night, without expecting any help, i must say. Since you haven’t replied to anyone who’s having trouble. The only thing you tweeted are things that won’t be of any help to any of us.
But, to answer your question: “Would you click on a ‘Hate’ button on Facebook? Check it out!” I would rather have a hate button for this app, so everyone can let you know how they feel!

Furthermore, why is there no chang-log available for the updates. Isn’t it right to let people know what you (tried to) fix? I’m currently feeling like i’ve paid to be a alpha-tester, because if this was a new app, it would be in it’s alpha stage. The only thing that is keeping me from turning my back at this app all together is the fact that i’ve paid for it.

And now that i hopefully still have your attention i would like to propose some future changes:
one; a chang-log, so we can see what we’re getting into.
two; less bright colours, it’s hard to even adjust the settings with these colours.
three; the app remembering my settings after an update. Right now it forgets everything after every update, and with 3 in 48 hours i’m getting sick of it.
four; please change the orange coloour in the dark theme to a less bright colour (green was good). The orange is hurting too.

So please, get rid of the last 3 updates. I think we all can live with the jumping timeline issue. Just not with the app resetting every x minutes…
